All of our aid is humanitarian. That means that we work in various crises and disasters. Our work starts when a war, an epidemic, or a natural disaster has made the healthcare system collapse.
We save lives and alleviate suffering for example in following crises and disasters:
Epidemics and pandemics
Every year millions of people die of diseases that are curable or even entirely preventable. MSF prevents and manages epidemics and restricts their spreading.
Climate crisis
The climate crisis is also a health crisis and a humanitarian crisis. We provide healthcare in numerous countries affected disproportionately by the climate crisis.
Access to medicines, vaccines and diagnostic tests
Medicines shouldn’t be a luxury. However, every year numerous people are disabled or lose their lives, because medicines, vaccines or diagnostic tests are too expensive or otherwise not available. We work to make vital medication available to everyone.
Natural disasters
Natural disasters turn people’s lives upside down in an instant. With our worldwide network of professionals and equipment we are able to respond quickly to natural disasters.
Refugees and migrants
MSF works around the world to provide healthcare and psychological support to refugees. We build hospitals in refugee camps, help mothers give birth safely, vaccinate children against epidemics, and provide clean water.
Wars and conflicts
Armed conflicts destroy lives. About a third of the people we help live in the context of an armed conflict.
Search and rescue in the Mediterranean
Violence, war, persecution. These are some of the reasons for seeking refuge. Every year thousands of people venture to Europe over the Mediterranean in search of safety. The journey is dangerous, and the EU countries have blocked practically all safe ways to apply for protection. Many people have to resort to extreme means.
